COVID-19 UPDATE

WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER

In partnership with the South Carolina Department of Education, Office of Special Education Services and the Southeastern School Behavioral Health Community, the Behavioral Alliance of South Carolina (BASC) seeks to build capacity for supporting students with or at risk of developing emotional disabilities in South Carolina, and to promote their positive social, emotional, behavioral and academic functioning. The BASC provides year-round opportunities for educators, students and practitioners across the state to learn evidenced-based practices for prevention, early intervention, and treatment of emotional and behavioral concerns. Utilizing a tiered strategic plan, BASC provides training and technical support at three levels of intensity based on the need of local education agencies to reduce the achievement gap between students with emotional disabilities and their peers without disabilities.

With many collaborators in the state and as part of a broad national effort, our BASC team is working to help school leaders, teachers, families, students, counselors and others respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, including a link, available here, to a list of vetted, role specific, readily available resources. Additionally our website, will be hosting “Working through it Wednesdays” a weekly thirty minute skill-based webinar series, embedding brief 2-5 minute caregiver support videos in our “Caregiver Corner”, uplifting the community voice in our Monday afternoon fifteen minute interview segment/podcast “BASC-ing in the Spotlight” which coincides with an interactive BASC Blog, while also continuing our monthly one-hour webinars to ensure our response is comprehensive.

It is our privilege to walk along side with you and other South Carolinians as we reconnect, restructure, and renew diverse programming within schools’ multi-tiered systems of support to assist our students and help assure their success.

With our warmest regards,
The BASC Team
